Galatians

Galatians 5:16-18:

16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.

Paul begins this section with an invitation for us to “Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.”

Let–what does it mean?  How about “surrender, or be willing, or be aware of the choices we have.  It’s never automatic.  Again, we have a choice of two paths.  It’s the obedience to the Holy Spirit versus allowing my sinful nature to lead.

If I choose the path of the Holy Spirit, I am called to yield my will, to surrender my will.   My will can all too easily be controlled by my sinful nature.  But Paul wants me to choose the path of surrender.  It’s like a child surrenders his or her will to that of the loving parent.

I love that – it is so encouraging. What translation are you using? (Sorry if you already said earlier.)
